Skarab was a slightly domed box-shaped robot that competed in Series 1 of Robot Wars. During its introduction it was incorrectly spelt Scarab. The robot wasn't the quickest with a top speed of just 3 mph, but it was armed with a spring loaded steel hammer. The machine utilised two suspension springs from a 1923 antique car. The robot was named after an ancient Egyptian beetle, but it was described by Jonathan Pearce as looking like "a birthday cake on wheels", and by Jeremy Clarkson, "cheese on toast".
Robot History Edit
Skarab chose to take the House Robot route in the Gauntlet. It proceeded quite slowly and after suffering some damage from Sergeant Bash and Dead Metal, Skarab managed to get through to the end zone. In the Trial, which was Snooker, Skarab tactically pocketed one ball and then sat infront of its goal. This tactic worked as The Blob, Eubank the Mouse and T.R.A.C.I.E. all broke down, which meant it qualified for the arena.
In its first battle, Skarab fought a similarly shaped robot, The Blob. Both robots were very slow, but Skarab had the edge in power and pushed The Blob into the railings, where it broke down. The Blob was then attacked by the House Robots and Skarab was through to the final.
Skarab's hammer had broken, so the team had borrowed a mace from the Killertron team. In the battle T.R.A.C.I.E was the quicker and tore some armour off Skarab and repeatedly rammed Skarab. Skarab's aerial was then cut off by Matilda's chainsaw, but this did not stop Skarab, as that particular aerial only controlled the weapon. The match went to a Judges' decision, and they sent T.R.A.C.I.E through to the Grand Final.
