HIGH-5 is a heavyweight robot which competed Series 9 of Robot Wars. It was built by Dave Smith, who entered alongside his two sons. It is named after the cheerful hand gesture, which the robot is aesthetically based upon.
HIGH-5 shares a lot of similarities with S.M.I.D.S.Y., which ACE Robotics also owns, although HIGH-5's chassis is entirely new. HIGH-5 is box-shaped, runs on four tyres, and is invertible. Its weaponry is a clamping jaw at the front, with five fingers, hence the name. The jaws are capable of both clamping and lifting other robots. Aesthetically, the robot is also decorated in handprints to match the style.
HIGH-5 competed in Episode 4, where they faced the long-time veteran Supernova, newcomer Frostbite, and also Wyrm. In the team's interview with Angela Scanlon, Scanlon stated that HIGH-5's wheels look sturdy, to which Sarah Malyan revealed that the team would score the tyres for extra grip in battle. However, the battle was extremely short-lived for HIGH-5. After slowly reaching the centre of the arena, it turned on the spot, and Wyrm reversed into the side of HIGH-5, which immediately immobilised it just seven seconds into the battle. Supernova approached the immobile HIGH-5, but then noticed that it could not move, and backed away. After Wyrm broke down, Supernova made the decision to attack the rear corner of HIGH-5, slicing through its back armour. Cease was called, and Supernova qualified alongside Frostbite. Although Frostbite would later withdraw from the competition, potentially giving HIGH-5 a chance to re-enter the competition, it was confirmed that Wyrm had earned third place within this Group Battle, and HIGH-5 was not reinstated.
HIGH-5 made its debut on the live circuit at Extreme Robots in Manchester, during April 2017. Initially struggling from drive issues, it was thrown out of the arena by Eruption in its first fight. It then quickly pitted itself in its second fight, before being immobilised by Gabriel in its final match.
