EXERCISE RESTRAINT prior to Kilobots 51
EXERCISE RESTRAINT is a beetleweight beater-bar spinner built by Team Jester. EXERCISE RESTRAINT follows the standard design for a beetleweight beater-bar spinner, with two rear-set wheels and a large, belt-driven weapon in the front. EXERCISE RESTRAINT had a strong weapon, but suffered from drive problems for most of its career, although it has still managed to reach podium finishes at a few of its events.The robot's name comes from an infamous voice line from the character Dr. Vahlen in the game XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
The 2023 version of EXERCISE RESTRAINT shares its design with Perfectly Cromulent, as Team Jester and Team butts_bots had collaborated on the previous version of EXERCISE RESTRAINT, with both robots effectively being an exact copy of one another minus some small electrical differences.

Kilobots XL[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT at Kilobots 40
The first version of EXERCISE RESTRAINT was built out of a cutting board. This version featured extended pontoons at the rear, which were intended to be used to add a wedge, however this did not happen as the robot did not have enough weight.
EXCERCISE RESTRAINT's first opponent was reigning beetleweight champion Utopia. As the fight began both robots revved their weapons up to maximum speed, and Utopia approached quickly, but EXCERCISE RESTRAINT didn't move as its weapon was drawing too much current for the robot to be able to move. Utopia attacked and ripped a wheel off, and EXCERCISE RESTRAINT throttled down its weapon, trying to crabwalk and attack Utopia. After a few glancing blows from both robots, it was clear EXCERCISE RESTRAINT was done, and tapped out, giving the win to Utopia.
Now in the loser's bracket, EXCERCISE RESTRAINT fought vertical spinner Maul. Although Maul could drive properly, its weapon wasn't working from the start. Thankfully for Maul, EXERCISE RESTRAINT's weapon also failed within the first minute due to a loose screw on the weapon pulley digging into the robot's frame, and the fight devolved into a pushing match for the remainder of the time. In the end, the judges ruled in favor of EXERCISE RESTRAINT.
EXCERCISE RESTRAINT's next opponent was Limblifter, who entered the fight with a hinged "chisel" and a lifting "spear" on one side. As the fight began EXCERCISE RESTRAINT revved up as Limblifter box-rushed, riding underneath EXCERCISE RESTRAINT's beater bar, throwing sparks. Limblifter backed off, and EXCERCISE RESTRAINT appeared to be having trouble driving. Limblifter took advantage and attacked again, using its spear to flip EXCERCISE RESTRAINT onto its back. EXCERCISE RESTRAINT then accidentally drove straight into the open pushout, eliminating it from the tournament.
EXCERCISE RESTRAINT also had an unofficial rematch against Maul, which had replaced its vertical spinner with several large sheets of titanium. In the end, after a double-knockout, the judges ruled that Maul had moved last, and it was declared the winner.
EXCERCISE RESTRAINT also returned for the rumble, but it quickly lost a wheel before going weapon-to-weapon with Dempsey Roll, which left it knocked out in the corner for the remainder of the rumble. In the end, Wilson would win the beetleweight rumble.
Kilobots XLI[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT returned for Kilobots XLI completely rebuilt. It did not have much success at this event, which used a round-robin format.
First EXERCISE RESTRAINT fought undercutter NightWing and lost.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT then fought drum spinner Reckoning and lost.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT then fought vertical spinner Maul and won by knockout.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT's next opponent was horizontal bar spinner LowBlow. EXERCISE RESTRAINT lost this fight.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT then fought wedge lifter Mega Don G and lost.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT then fought four wheeled pusher Excalibur and lost.
Overall, EXERCISE RESTRAINT won only one fight in the round-robin, giving it the #7 seed for the eliminator bracket. This placed it against Reckoning, who won for a second time, eliminating EXERCISE RESTRAINT from the tournament once again.
Kilobots XLII[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT at Kilobots 42
EXERCISE RESTRAINT returned for this event, now equipped with UHMW wheelguards. This event used a six-way rumble format for the beetleweights.
In the end, EXERCISE RESTRAINT took fourth place with twelve points.
Kilobots XLIII[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT's first opponent at this event was brand new pneumatic flipper Kelpie. EXERCISE RESTRAINT lost this fight and dropped into the losers bracket.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT then fought a completely rebuilt Mega Don G. EXERCISE RESTRAINT was able to get destructive revenge, quickly knocking out Mega Don G to advance.
The next opponent for EXERCISE RESTRAINT was massive vertical saw spinner Chaos Theory. EXERCISE RESTRAINT made quick work of Chaos Theory's wheel pods, giving it the knockout victory.
Next up was fellow beater bar spinner Gobble Gobble. The two robots tentatively approached one another spinning their weapons up, before colliding head on. The impact flipped Gobble Gobble onto its back, where it could not continue driving, giving EXERCISE RESTRAINT another quick victory.
Icky Mouse was EXERCISE RESTRAINT's next opponent. Icky Mouse won this fight, and EXERCISE RESTRAINT was eliminated from the tournament.
Kilobots XLVIII[]
This event was a pair of mini-tournaments, one for each of the two days. EXERCISE RESTRAINT did not participate in the first tournament, as it was not finished.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT's first opponent in the second tournament was four-wheeled vertical spinner Salamander. EXERCISE RESTRAINT won this fight and advanced.
Next, EXERCISE RESTRAINT fought pushbot The Slab King, who was being driven by another builder as both bots had been brought by the same team. EXERCISE RESTRAINT won this fight and advanced to the winners bracket finals.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT's next opponent was veteran drum spinner Utopia. EXERCISE RESTRAINT lost this fight and dropped into the loser's bracket.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT's next opponent would have been The Slab King again, but it had been irreparably damaged by The Butcher in its previous fight and was unable to fight again, allowing EXERCISE RESTRAINT to advance to the final.
Facing Utopia in the finals once again, EXERCISE RESTRAINT was defeated once more, ending up as the runner-up.
Kilobots 50[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT first fought rookie twin vertical spinner Snark. EXERCISE RESTRAINT lost this fight by judge's decision and dropped into the loser's bracket.
Next, EXERCISE RESTRAINT fought ORIGIN, who had been redesigned for this event into a hammersaw similar to Starchild. EXERCISE RESTRAINT lost this fight as well and was eliminated from the tournament.
Robogames 2023[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT was initially signed up for the beetleweight competition at RoboGames 2023, but later dropped out along with their antweight Flamingore as the team wanted to focus on heavyweight Bullion and didn't have the manpower to run multiple robots.
Kilobots 52[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT was registered for this event and was present in the pits, but was not completed in time and did not have any matches.
Kilobots 51[]
EXERCISE RESTRAINT's first opponent was Icky Mouse, a rematch from the previous Canadian Nationals. EXERCISE RESTRAINT won this fight and advanced.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT then fought Excalibur. EXERCISE RESTRAINT lost this fight and dropped into the losers bracket.
EXERCISE RESTRAINT then fought Perfectly Cromulent, winning and advancing.
Once again, EXERCISE RESTRAINT had to fight Icky Mouse. After an explosive fight, EXERCISE RESTRAINT won again, and advanced.
Now, EXERCISE RESTRAINT fought Excalibur again. This time, EXERCISE RESTRAINT won and advanced to the finals.
After the previous two fights, EXERCISE RESTRAINT was slated to fight Utopia, but it was too badly damaged to fight on even after an extension of their pit time. After Utopia's builder agreed, it was decided to substitute the less-damaged Perfectly Cromulent in as the two robots were essentially identical. Despite this, "EXERCISE RESTRAINT" was not able to overcome Utopia, leaving it as the runner up of the event once again.
