64 Wedge was a middleweight robot which competed in Season 5.0 of BattleBots. It was a box-shaped robot with no active weapon and hinged skirting all around. It performed decently in its only season, winning two fights before being defeated in the round of 128.
After BattleBots ended, 64 Wedge was renamed Max Wedge and did much better, becoming one of the most successful middleweights on the live circuit and even winning a RoboGames competition in its weight class. This success gave 64 Wedge an honorable mention in the Combat Robot Hall of Fame.
On February 7, 2015, Max Wedge was put up for sale. It was bought by Paul Ventimiglia, of Bite Force fame.
Robot History[]
64 Wedge's first battle was against Two-Fisted. The two robots slowly drove out, and 64 Wedge charged, getting underneath Two-Fisted and eventually slamming it into the spike strip. This happened again, and eventually 64 Wedge took some hits from Two-Fisted's weapon. The match ended and 64 Wedge won on a 29-16 judge's decision.
64 Wedge then went up against Mirror Image. Mirror Image charged 64 Wedge at full speed, and 64 Wedge managed to sidestep the charge, sending Mirror Image flying into the spike strip. Mirror Image stopped moving, but 64 Wedge pushed Mirror Image off the spike strip and slammed it back into the spike strip. Mirror Image still couldn't move, and so 64 Wedge won by knockout.
Edge was 64 Wedge's next opponent. This was a close battle, with both robots being aggressive and using their wedges effectively. At one point 64 Wedge's front wedge hit a seam in the BattleBox floor, knocking the robot upwards, bending the front wedge and slowing 64 Wedge down. So, the driver simply hit the robot's inversion switch and drove backwards. This fixed the problem, and so the match resumed normally. Eventually, the fight ended. However, the judges rule a 23-22 decision for The Edge, mostly due to the damage 64 Wedge sustained when it hit the seam.
